Investigate the antioxidant and liver-protective effects of the aerial part extract on acetaminophen-induced toxicity in rats.
Methods
Sample: 36 rats, divided into 6 groups.
Treatment:
Control group: Normal saline.
Other groups: Acetaminophen (500 mg/kg) for 7 days.
Treatment with Ajuga extract (200, 400, 800 mg/kg) and Silymarin (100 mg/kg).
Measurements:
Blood: ALT, AST, alkaline phosphatase, bilirubin, total protein, albumin.
Liver tissue: Glutathione, malondialdehyde.
Results
Hepato-protective effects: Reduced liver damage enzymes.
Lipid profile: Lower cholesterol, triglycerides, LDL, VLDL in treated groups.
Best effects: 200 mg/kg extract significantly prevented glutathione decrease and malondialdehyde increase.
Histopathology: Least damage at 200 mg/kg dose and silymarin.
